Family Reopens The Granary Restaurant In Newtown, Powys
The Granary in Parker's Lane reopened its doors on Saturday, December 14, following an opening night which saw friends, local business owners and the town mayor and deputy mayor enjoy tasty nibbles and drinks inside the cosy Grade II-listed 17th century timber-framed restaurant.

The cherished eatery in the heart of Newtown has made a comeback in time for the festive season under the new ownership of Emma and Tony Norris, alongside their son Tim.

The December menu, created by the family, offers mains such as steak, pan fired salmon and chicken breast, and Thai green curry, with desserts including chocolate mousse and honeycomb, white chocolate panna cotta, poached pear and sticky toffee pudding.

The Story
Classically trained chef Tim has worked in France, Spain and AA Rosette restaurants and hotels across the country including in London over the past 12 years.

"Everyone I've spoken to said Newtown is missing a decent restaurant," Tim said.

"I can assure everything that is possible will be homemade. If there's something people would like to see on the menu, I welcome suggestions. It's just finding what works."

Despite the nerves of opening a restaurant, husband and wife Tony and Emma are relishing the opportunity to bring something special back to Newtown which Emma has been thinking about doing for a long time.

"We're looking forward to it now that we're up and running," Tony said. "Come and try us, see what the service is like and taste some great food."

Newtown Mayor Cllr Pete Lewington said he was "absolutely delighted" to see The Granary reopening in town."I think this will add to and enhance the food offerings that we have here in Newtown," he said."I think it’s brilliant that it’s all trying to be locally sourced from the food down to the drinks. I think that’s superb."I think it’ll be an absolute treat not only for our residents but for all the visitors that come to this great town of ours."The Granary is back open. It's a fantastic venue in a lovely building, get the people in. I wish them every success for the future."
